Type is characters and letterforms and typography describes how type is used to convey ideas and meaning.

Practice

Learn some of the basic elements of typography. Then try the Kerning Game and the Shape Type Game.

Create

Using unsplash and google images, find examples of typography that you like. Look for images of signs, menus, logos, or online magazines advertisements. Save photos you like.

Open the photos in Photoshop and use the Marquee and/or Quick Selection Tool to cut out letters and then arrange them on a canvas to create an alphabet, your name, a quote or song lyric.

Add to your portfolio and publish when you're done.
